Pocket Spring Mattresses
In a pocket spring mattress, the springs are arranged in individual fabric pockets, allowing them to respond independently to your child's movements. For children, a pocket spring mattress is a safer choice than an open coil mattress. Open coil mattresses are more springy because all the springs are connected, which can increase the risk of children rolling off as the entire mattress moves with them. A pocket spring mattress moves only where the child is. High-quality, dense foam should encapsulate the pocket springs to provide adequate support for a child's growth.
Ensure the mattress is hypoallergenic and free from harmful chemicals. Also, verify that the mattress has been tested to BS EN 7177, which covers children’s mattresses, ensuring they meet strict flammability standards.

"Although there are some fantastic hybrid mattresses in this review, Stompa just about inches it, as the brand is completely dedicated to kids’ furniture. And it clearly shows in the thoughtful construction of this mattress.
Our tester absolutely loved this mattress. Its soft cushioned top layer and airflow comfort layer make it incredibly comfortable for little sleepers. "Another great offering from Stompa, this version of the S flex airflow features five layers, including an airflow foam layer and a supportive and sturdy foam base. Stompa has recently revisited the design of this bestselling mattress and has utilised reconstituted foam recycled from offcuts.
The mattress is completely free of potentially harmful chemicals and comes with a hypoallergenic cover, which is removable and washable, meaning any accidents needn’t cause long-lasting issues.
Our tester found this mattress incredibly comfortable and enjoyed the massage top layer of foam with its undulating surface.
It’s worth noting that this is thinner than other mattresses we’ve featured, but it’s safe to use on both bunk and cabin beds, too. The price of this mattress belies the quality of the materials used."

The Mattress Height Matters
Consider whether the mattress will be used on a bunk bed or a raised bed; cabin bed/mid sleeper or high sleeper. To ensure that your child is safe check that the top of the mattress is at least 16cm below the top of the side and end rails to prevent them from rolling out of bed. Our Stompa S Flex Airflow standard single and continental single mattresses are less than 16cm in depth making them safe to use with our range of Stompa beds as well as many other manufacturer's Bunk Beds, High Sleepers and Mid Sleepers.
