Self Assembly Tips
You've paid good money for your Stompa product, so a few minutes spent reading this could save you a lot of trouble and expense.
Before You Start
- Avoid Power Tools: Although quicker, power tools can over-tighten screws, leading to split components. Hand tools allow you to feel resistance and avoid over-tightening.
- Identify Components: Match all components against the assembly instructions before starting. Familiarise yourself with their purpose and location within the completed item for easier assembly.
- Missing/Damaged Parts: Contact us for advice about any missing or damaged components before beginning assembly. Reach us by telephone on +44 1943 608 775 or email at [email protected].
- Correct Screws: Similar-sized screws may be provided in the fittings pack. Ensure you select the correct size as per the instructions to prevent splitting the wood.
- Cam Screws: These should be screwed in firmly so they are flush with the surface without indenting it. Avoid over-tightening.
During Assembly
- Follow the Instructions: Assemble in the correct order to avoid confusion and potential damage.
- Insert Dowels Correctly: Always insert dowels into the components shown in the instructions, not into the adjoining component.
- Use Gentle Taps: Insert dowels by hand. If tight, use a soft mallet with gentle taps to avoid stressing the components.
- Ensure Full Insertion: Dowels must be fully inserted before proceeding, especially when glue is required.
- Use Glue as Instructed: Only glue dowels where specifically instructed.
- Cam Screws: These should be flush with the surface. Avoid over-tightening.
- Component Orientation: Identify and allocate components drilled for either left or right use before inserting dowels or screws.
Joining Components
- Gentle and Square: Push joining components together gently and squarely. Support one component on a level surface to avoid angling dowels and splitting the wood.
- Align Screws: Ensure screws align with pre-drilled pilot holes before fully tightening. For self-tapping screws, correctly position components before starting.
- Square Furniture Carcasses: Ensure carcasses are square before nailing back panels. Nail squarely to avoid penetration through the other side. Use enough nails for a solid join and space them evenly.
Maintenance & Care
- Check Joins Regularly: Assembled items may settle during use. Periodically check all joins for tightness, especially in the first few weeks or after moving the product.
- Keep Instructions: Store assembly instructions and any provided tools in a safe place for future use.
- Disassembly Advice: If disassembly is needed (e.g., when moving house), contact us for advice. Keep fittings together and avoid losing any. If something is lost, contact us for advice rather than sourcing replacements from DIY stores.
- Follow Our Instructions: Different manufacturers have different assembly methods. Follow our instructions precisely, even if you have prior experience with other flat-packed furniture.
